Your Doucments In The Clouds

What is the new Cloud computing thing that everyone is taking about and how can i use it? Cloud computing or Internet computing is the next step in the evolution of information technology. Most people are familiar with using computers on their desktop or maybe on their laptops. SmartPhones like the Android or IPhone have moved people closer to the concept, but for most people the concept of Cloud computing is still a bit of a mystery, still it;s buzzword phase. Are you ready for this/ If you have an online e-mail account you have experience cloud computing at at very basic level.

For most people Cloud computing started with and will start with email, service like Gmail. Google Docs, YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook are are ll rapidly moving us more into the realm of Cloud computing. For instance I have a document that I need work on, but I do not have my thumb drive or for some people a floppy drive handy, but i do have Internet access, so I simply email the document to myself. In most cases i can read the document online of download to the machine I will be working on later. Now imagine if I just went on line and created the document and keep it one the server or website. Noe i can get to it whenever i want to and even allow other people to view and edit the document. Often people ask me what is my fax number, I say email it, and the concept seems kind of foreign. Other times, they want to send a handwritten document or picture, I say use your camera phone and email it to me, for some reasons a lot of people still do not make the connection and feel they must type a letter, print it and fax it. when it could have been emailed as soon as it was type.

Online Applications - As Easy As Browse And Click

Online applications are everywhere, most of the popular programs that you bought your computer for, you know, keeping tracks of bills - Quicken, doing taxes, recipes, all have online counterparts that releases you from your chains of being tied to any one computer or locations.

There are numerous places that allow you to upload, store and share documents online. Most use the free advertising supportedĀ  model, with options to purchase more space and get rid of ads. some are better than others but all move you closer to being free of just one computer and the Internet becomes your platform.

What if the Internet Goes Down

The question that keeps the most computers users tied to their boxes is "what if I can't get on the Internet?". the fear of being without your important document is what most site as the reason they have not embraced this new Internet computing model whole hog, unfortunately, most over look the fact that they can have the document in more than one place, i guess this explains by people fail to back-up their work and their documents. the good thing about Cloud/Internet computing, it would force more people to acquire the habit of backing up and syncing documents.

What About My Privacy

The lost of privacy or theft of companies secrets cause many people to be fearful of Cloud computing, and indeed, without proper cautions and safeguards it is almost as easy to steal stuff from the Cloud as it is to steal it from the office. However, stealing from the office or even the home is still easier. Why, well mainly because people think that it is not easy to steal from the office or home, most people take for granted that someone higher up is protecting their information, so they feel that they do to have to be overly concerned.

Most people will be gradually pulled into the Clouds, and hardly recognize that they have left the groups, however it is the people that get there and setup shop for the tourist, that will profit the most.

Great Hub. I have started using Writely before Google purchased it and renamed it Google docs. I use the cloud (Google Docs in my case) for about 75% of my personal work including writing most of my Hubs using Google Docs - once I have proof read and edited them I copy and paste them into HubPages. I also do most of my work for my regular job in the cloud as well.
