Goal Setting - Still The Key To Success
64Why Setting Goals are Still Important
Setting a Goal, is still one of the most effective ways to achieve your dreams. Oddly enough, not since the days of Stephen Covey and the 7 Habits Of Effective People, do you see or hear much about setting goals. There are techniques abound about getting traffic to your website, making money, getting ahead, but very little emphasis on actually setting and striving to reach goals.
It seems like setting goals has become too difficult of a concept and everyone is just looking for a step-by-step recipe to duplicate; or as my favorite performer, Prince says:
"Everybody wants to sell, what's already been sold" Gold
Here is an interesting observation, when you read the Hubs of people that report large earnings, you find a very common thread,
- They set a goal for themselves, weather it was writing x numbers of Hubs or making a certain amount. the setting of the goal drove them to educate themselves to reach the desired outcome.
- The goals they set were specific. Setting nebulous goals, are a lot like New Year's resolutions, no one expects them to be kept. Goals like make money on the Internet, lose weight, start a home business usually leads result in frustration
- Goals require work. Work in balance, is a good thing. No one wants to have to work hard all of the time, but work is a critical part of what makes our lives worth living. The trick is to find work that you do not mind doing or even enjoy.
The Value od Setting Goals
Goals teach us lessons. Goals allow us to measure our successes and setbacks, I intentionally did not use the term failures, because when you set goals, you will encounter setbacks, but as you move toward the goal or even amend the goal, success become more likely and faiiure more unlikely.
Teaching proper goal setting to young people is one of the most sure and most effective forms of education possible. Helping young people recognize the power of goal setting builds their confidence, broaden their understanding of success and make them better and more responible persons.
We set goals onĀ daily basis, often they are so minor, or insignificant that we overlook that they are even goals, so we disregard the lessons that are taught by setting a course of action and following through.
the next time you find yourself wondering how someone accomplished something, ask yourself or even that person, not How they did it, but was was the goal that motivated them to do it.
