Real This or That

If you were a Real Friend, you would do this or not do that. ow often have you seen this or something similar, or maybe you have spoken these words or have had these thoughts. The use of the word Real to emphasize, that someone is not behaving as you think they should or should not behave is very common, especially when it comes to relationships.

If you were a Real Friend, you would give me a $1000. or If you were a Real Man, then you would get a job and buy me what I want. If you were a Real Christian, you would not smoke, are lie, gamble, etc. I think you get the point.

1. Real to determine if something in genuine or not should only be applied to inanimate objects. A person or a rile related to a living thing can not be describe as real or not, you simply are or are not. For example a person pretending to be a Doctor is not a Doctor, so to say he is not a real Doctor is like that double negative thing, in reverse. since the person is not a Doctor, referring to him as not being a Real Doctor, does not make him any less so.
2. Using the term Real to describe someones shortcoming in a role, generally indicates your state of consciousness, basically you are admitting that you have been deceived by someone. In effect giving away your power to control and lead your life in the direction you want to go.
3. Your expectations have be too high for the other person and possibly for yourself. Many people overextend themselves in relationships and in turn expect other to reciprocate of course if the other person does not meet this standard causes you to pass judgement, convicting yourself and bringing judgment on yourself.
   

Language is beautiful and complex.For instance, we say a Real Man would not hit a woman, do we mean a person born a male or do we mean a male person in a role of power? A Real Woman does not smoke, drink or use profanity, do we mean a person that is clearly female or female that happens to be seen in public. It is so easy to apply labels and stereotypes, because it makes our lives easier, it helps us avoid thinking, evaluating and provides us with a easy excuse for not loving one another, not respecting one another and inflicting hurt upon one another.
